Merchants' Letter Cases

The leather wallet shown here belonged to eighteenth-century Liverpool merchant, John Bridge. Wallets such as these were used to carry important personal documents, including bills of credit or exchange, licences which permitted them to trade, and also the business and personal correspondence that forms the focus of this project.
